Dry Skin Brushing 101

Heard of skin brushing, but not really sure what it is? The basic concept is using a coarse, dry brush to brush the skin in a particular pattern, for a multitude of benefits. As we are strong believers in the importance of detoxification, we love it because it’s a perfect way to support your body’s detoxification. It also stimulates your lymphatic system and gets stagnant energy and blood moving – so let’s get brushing!

Much of the focus on healthy living and detoxification is placed on what we put into our bodies. However, our skin is in fact the largest organ in the body and one of the most important for waste elimination, playing a major role in daily detoxification. We often ignore the skin or worse yet, place further chemicals and toxins on it and place even more unwanted burden on our body. And when we’re sick or rundown, what often shows the tell-tale signs first? You guessed it, our skin.

An easy yet effective way we can begin to help detox our bodies is by dry skin brushing. Trust us, spending 5 minutes in the morning ‘brushing your bod’ will be well worth the investment! It’ll leave you feeling refreshed and energized immediately after, but watch out as even after just a few days of regular brushing, it can get addictive!

+ Use any natural bristle brush such as this Yerba Prima one and remember synthetic bristles are a no no!
+ Start at the feet and work your way upwards towards the centre of the body
+ Be sure to brush in circular or stroking movements
+ Move on to the back of the body, still brushing in the direction of the centre
+ Brush softly at first and eventually work up to firmer pressure
+ Let the skin breathe after, but if needed, moisturize with some coconut oil later in the day
+ For best results and an invigorating start to your day, repeat daily!
